The series includes this wing chair, which was crafted in 1951 by the renowned designer Hans J. Wegner. Since their inception, this piece has become some of the most sought-after upholstered furniture items, with the series originally being dubbed the “AP-19”.
However, it wasn’t long before the series received its permanent and affectionate names, the Papa Bear. This name originated from a critic who praised the armrests for their ability to provide a comforting embrace from behind, reminiscent of a bear hug.
The creative Danish designer was often inspired by nature and its abundance of organic shapes and forms. A great example is the Papa Bear Chair, which also follows the designer’s established principles of form and function.
